About a month ago, a friend of my husband posted something about how there is an “Other” folder in the Messages area of Facebook. It’s where messages wind up from groups or people you aren’t friends with. This folder doesn’t show up on the mobile version of Facebook, which is why I never saw it before. Anyway, I finally remembered to go take a look while on my computer at work, and there were a ton of messages going back a couple of years. Most were from various groups on Facebook, but one stood out to me because it was from just one person and the subject line was “Ciao”. It was sent to me in July 2012! Much to my extreme surprise and delight, it was from a lady named Monica and she used to spend her winters living in our house! I was BEYOND excited to hear from her because I always wondered about the history of the house, and who lived there, how it once looked, etc. She is married to Mike Romano, whose family owned the house. They lived there from 1964 to 2001. A young couple owned it before we did, and we bought it from them in 2004. It’s amusing to me that the families that have lived in the house were all Italian. Now, the house was built in 1956, and I don’t know who lived there before the Romano’s moved in, but 3 out of 4 families being Italian is pretty funny (to me, anyway). Monica was nice enough to send along a couple of photos:
Here is Monica standing in front of the house, during construction of the addition. It added a dining room, bedroom and half bath.
Here’s Mike, with the addition in the background. From what I understand, he enjoys mowing lawns. I, too, really enjoy mowing the lawn, and even have a Craftsman tractor, just like Mike did. :)
Here’s Monica and Mike in front of the house. That bush is no longer there, and neither is that walkway. There is now a garden to the left of where they are standing.
Here are some other family members, but this picture wasn’t taken in the house.
Here are a couple of more recent pics of the house as it looks now. We have done some work to it the outside since these were taken. We replaced the gutters and the deck floor boards as well as adding some plants under the three windows on the left side of house.
I just want to thank Mike and Monica for sharing their pictures and memories with me!
